Govt. Jamuna Prasad Verma P.G. Arts and Commerce College, Bilaspur (C.G.) has originated from S B R College which was established in 1944 with an aim to impart education to the socially and economically backward students of Bilaspur city as well as nearby villages. The college was taken over by Govt. of Madhya Pradesh on 26.01.1972. Later, the then Govt. of Madhya Pradesh bifurcated its Arts and Commerce faculties and a new unit named Govt. P.G. College, Bilaspur came into existence in 1986. The Govt. of Chhattisgarh has appended J.P. Verma in its name to honour Shri J.P. Verma, a renowned social worker of the region. Presently it is affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.
The institution has 30 Class room, 06 well Equipped Laboratories, 02 Computer Lab and Principal chamber with an office. The college is registered under section 2(f) and 12-B of University Grants Commission Act 1956 and accordingly grants are received from UGC to develop Infrastructure and academic quality of the institution.
